About the Department of Housing and Urban Development

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development was created under the Housing Act of 1939. Since then, the Department has focused on improving the housing and living conditions of citizens nation-wide. The City of Joplin primarily participated in HUD's HOME, CDBG, and NSP programs. With this funding, the City hopes to make significant improvements in low-moderate income neighborhoods across the city.
