  1. RED by John Logan CROWDER COLLEGE THEATRE PRODUCTION

    July 18, 7:30 PM - July 21, 9:00 PM @ CROWDER COLLEGE THEATRE

Master abstract expressionist Mark Rothko has just landed the biggest commission in the history of modern art, a series of murals for New York’s famed Four Seasons Restaurant. In the two fascinating years that follow, Rothko works feverishly with his young assistant, Ken, in his studio on the Bowery. But when Ken gains the confidence to challenge him, Rothko faces the agonizing possibility that his crowning achievement could also become his undoing. Raw and provocative, RED is a searing portrait of an artist’s ambition and vulnerability as he tries to create a definitive work for an extraordinary setting. Winner of the 2010 Tony Award. “Intense and exciting…a study in artist appreciation, a portrait of an angry and brilliant mind that asks you to feel the shape and texture of thoughts.

July 19, 8:00 PM - 8:30 PM @ Main Street Downtown Joplin Run begins at 7th and Main and is approximately 5 city blocks long

We are proud to announce our own running of the bulls here in Joplin. Working with the MoKan Roller derby team, we will be hosting a running on Third Thursday, July 19th. Show your bravado as you dash from the rollergirl 'bulls' who will race down the street trying to tag you. Can you make it to the finish line without being gorged by one of our 'bulls?' Bring your friends, family, neighbors and co-workers downtown to run with us. Or, leave your running shoes at home and come and enjoy the spectacle! Proceeds go to the Ronald McDonald House and, as the tradition started with Saint Fermin, Joplin Area Catholic Schools. The more runners the merrier! Costumes are strongly encouraged, and awards will be given for best in show. We can't wait to see you there!
