Library’s Makerspace celebrates GRAND OPENING on Saturday with demonstrations

It’s time to meet your MAKERSPACE! With the new Joplin Public Library opening earlier this summer, many citizens have enjoyed the new facility, expanded collections and fun and educational programming. Now it’s time to enjoy one of the newest features in libraries nationwide – a Makerspace.

Everyone is welcome on Saturday, October 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to watch numerous demonstrations, and visit with staff about the possibilities this new feature brings to Joplin. The Makerspace consists of several adaptable creation spaces with numerous tools, resources, printers, and other pertinent creative technology for patrons to enjoy using.

Demonstrations will include 3D printing and scanning, laser cutting, digital media conversion, origami, virtual reality, sewing, button-making and more. Library staff will walk through these various tools that can be utilized by the public. The Makerspace will be available through a reservation process. More information will be provided at Saturday’s event and following this fun day of creativity.

Descriptions are difficult for this new area in the library. The Makerspace may include tools and support services to complete booklet and brochure publishing, video production and/or editing, audio recording or editing, 3d printing and scanning, as well as other creative projects. Patrons interested in these types of projects should stop by the library, visit their website, or contact them at 417-623-7953.

The new library is located at 1901 East 20th Street and is open from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday; and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
