National Influenza Vaccination Week December 3 through December 9

Many health behaviors are hard to change - exercise, weight loss, and smoking, for example. One of the easiest health behaviors to practice is getting vaccinated against flu. It is an easy way for community members to protect themselves and their families. In most cases, the flu causes mild to moderate illness, but it can lead to severe illness, and complications can lead to death.  Now is the time to protect yourself, as well as those at higher risk, such as infants and the elderly.

Everyone 6 months of age and older should get a flu vaccine every season.  You have many options to obtain a flu vaccination.  Many physician offices, pharmacies, and health departments offer the flu vaccine, and many insurance companies pay for the injection.  The Joplin Health Department has ample flu vaccine available for our insured clients.

The Joplin Health Department has influenza vaccine for children and adults.  There is no co-pay for many insurances.  Joplin citizens can call 417-623-6122 to determine their cost, if any, will be for this important immunization and to schedule an appointment. Walk-ins are also welcome between 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from December 4  to December 8 to receive a flu vaccination.
