Schifferdecker Aquatic Center opens with modifications due to COVID-19

Schifferdecker Aquatic Center is now open! Guests should anticipate amenity modifications to ensure the safety of our guests during this time.

The facility will have a reduced guest capacity and everyone will have to adhere to social distancing guidelines both in and out of the water, except among other household members. Children age 15 and under must be accompanied by someone 16 years old or older to enter.

Schifferdecker will be open 7 days a week from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. with extended hours on Fridays until 8 p.m.

There will not be any chairs on the deck, however guests may bring their own foldable, portable lawn chairs. Areas that are closed include the inner tube slide, rock wall, and pool basketball area. The lazy river is open, however no inner tubes will be available.

Two sessions of modified swim lessons will be held from June 29-July 9 and July 20-30. Class times and cost will vary depending on the class chosen. For more information, please visit the Department’s website at

Admission is $5 for visitors age 15 & under and $6 for visitors 16 years old and over. Season passes are available for purchase and the cost is prorated to reflect the amended pool season

The Center’s opening was postponed until June 15 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, staff hiring and delays in lifeguard training courses due to classes being held at outdoor pool facilities.  Other pools in Joplin will not be opening at this time. The City is still accepting lifeguard applications. Those interested may apply online at

We appreciate everyone’s patience while we adapt to the recommended operations for parks and recreation. Please know these things may change in future. The City and Parks and Recreation will post updates as needed. Please continue to follow social distancing guidelines to stay healthy and safe. For questions, please call 417-625-4750 or email
