The Joplin Senior Center, a primarily operated by the Area Agency on Aging, is located at 2616 S. Picher Avenue. The Center is dedicated to providing individuals in our community, age 60 and over, with opportunities for socialization, learning, wellness, travel & adventure. The Center is open year round, Monday – Friday from 8:00am- 3:00pm. Lunch is served on weekdays from 11:30am - 12:30pm. For more information about senior services, please call the Area Agency on Aging office at 417-781-9353.

The senior center features a 14,000 ft facility tucked into the hillside, adjacent to Mercy Park. The facility provides an expanded kitchen to serve over 140 seniors daily, exercise classrooms to accommodate 40-50 seniors, as well as privacy rooms to provide free wellness checks and counseling. Additionally, the design of the facility includes a concentrated focus on its connection to Mercy Park through views and connectivity. The senior center has a series of covered, intimate patios that overlook the park and provide outdoor event and activity areas. Overlooking the patio area and Mercy Park, the main hall is used for daily lunch and as an event center with a full commercial kitchen. The building also features a FEMA rated storm shelter designed to ICC-500 standards.

Limited after-hour building rentals are available. In order to ensure the primary use is for seniors, City of Joplin limits its rental use to 35 hours a month, between Friday after 6:30 PM through Saturday 10 PM. Availability for those weekends will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. Priority will be given to events that are marketed towards and intended for seniors. For rates and additional information, please contact the Joplin Parks and Recreation Department at 417-625-4750.
