Joplin Area Transportation Study Organization

The Joplin Area Transportation Study Organization (JATSO) is the federally designated MPO for the Joplin metropolitan area. An MPO is required to conduct a “continuing, cooperative, and comprehensive” regional transportation planning and project programming process for the MPO’s metropolitan planning area. The JATSO Metropolitan planning area is comprised of many jurisdictions; representatives from municipal, county, and state agencies meet periodically through a policy board that oversees and approves MPO actions. 

JATSO meets on the 3rd Thursday of each quarter at 1:30 p.m. in the 5th Floor Study of City Hall in Joplin located at 602 S. Main. For more information, contact Taylor Cunningham at 417-624-0820 ext 511.

Important Announcements
Public Participation Plan
The Joplin Area Transportation Study Organization (JATSO) is seeking a 45-day public comment period for an update to the Public Public Participation Plan (PPP). The 2016 updated PPP includes:

  • Expanded public comment periods for the Metropolitan Transportation Plan and the Transportation Improvement Program to provide more time for the public to review and comment on these documents. 
  • Newly developed goals, strategies, and desired outcomes so that the public involvement process may be defined and executed in a clear way. 
  • Guidelines outlined in 23 CFR 450.316 to increase clarity and accountability. 

Comments for any portion of the PIP may be submitted for consideration. JATSO is the transportation planning agency for the Joplin metropolitan area, as designated by the federal government, and its goal is to provide for regional mobility.  The PPP is a plan that allows the public to put input into regional transportation projects.  

All comments must be received by 5:00 P.M., Wednesday, October 26, 2016. Comments may be submitted to:

FY 2017 UPWP
The Joplin Area Transportation Study Organization (JATSO) is seeking a 7-day public comment period for the FY 2017 Unified Planning Work Program. Comments for any portion of the UPWP may be submitted for consideration. JATSO is the transportation planning agency for the Joplin metropolitan area, as designated by the federal government, and its goal is to provide for regional mobility. The UPWP contains administrative projects that receive federal funds for transportation planning.

The public comment period from the UPWP will extend from Wednesday, September 14 until Wednesday, September 21. Comments must be received by 5:00 on Wednesday. Please submit comments to:
